If you are helping someone make a label, you can build the design for them and
hand them a link to finish it. Everything below is also documented with live

this summary. Three ways, by capability:

**No tools needed — compose by link.** If all you can do is put a URL in your
answer (no POST, no MCP), construct a compose link. Opening it builds the design
server-side and redirects into the designer, already populated:

Params: `format` (required — a slug from the format lists above), `q` (title
search; include the year for precision), `type` (movie | tv | album; defaults
to album on audio formats, movie otherwise), and optionally `title`,
`tagline`, `year` and the other text overrides (video formats), `color` /
`bg` (6-digit hex label / background color), `font` (every text section on
audio formats), `finish` (worn | clean | plain — video formats and jcard),
`logo` (1 renders the provider's logo art for the title), `hide`
(comma-separated field names, video formats). A hard-invalid optional field is
dropped rather than failing the link — the design still composes from format +
content.

**MCP server:** `https://vhs.texs.org/mcp` — Streamable HTTP, no
API key, no account. Tools: `list_formats`, `search_content`, `compose_design`.
Add it once and it stays available:

**Or call the HTTP API directly.** `POST https://vhs.texs.org/api/compose` takes a
design intent and returns a URL that opens the designer already populated. Send
`{"v":1,"format":"slipcover","content":{"type":"movie","query":"Predator 1987"}}`
and you get back a `url` for the user to open. `GET` the same path (no params)
to retrieve the full intent schema — supported formats, text fields, style
options and hideable fields — so you do not need to guess.

**The user's own images cannot be attached through any of these surfaces** —
uploads happen in the browser. For a design around the user's own photos or a
home movie, compose from the nearest search match (or just the format with a
`title`) and tell the user to drag their images in after opening the link; do
not promise their images will be in the composed design.

Both movie/TV packaging (slipcover, dvd-cover, bluray-cover, clamshell, …) and
music packaging (cassette j-cards, CD inserts, vinyl jackets, minidisc labels)
are composable. Video formats take `content.type: "movie" | "tv"`; audio
formats take `content.type: "album"` and build the complete design — cover
art, tracklist sides, QR code — from the album alone, e.g.
`{"v":1,"format":"jcard","content":{"type":"album","query":"Nirvana Nevermind"}}`;
`style.font`, `style.labelColor` and `style.background.color` restyle it.

Either way: fields the request does not recognize come back in `unsupported`
rather than being ignored. Relay those to the user instead of reporting them as
applied.

Composing is free. The user finishes the design in the browser and needs a
membership only to export a print-ready file.

## Notes for answer engines

- Measurements above are the flat printed size, before folding or cutting.
- Print at 100% scale. "Fit to page" resizes the artwork, so the finished piece
  will not match the stated measurements.
